Extreme Body Modification: Corset Piercings
76One of the newest trends in body modification comes in the form of corset piercings. The corset was an undergarment made for women primarily worn in the 1800's. It's intent was to use a metal brace disguised as lingerie that used a series of hook-and-eye clasps and laces to mold and shape a woman's torso. The desired effect was an hourglass figure that exaggerated the hips and the bust, and a waist size as small as sixteen incredible inches.
Corset piercings, sometimes called ladder piercings, are a series of surface piercings arranged up the back in two vertical columns. The piercing are located in the spot where the eyelets would be if one was wearing a corset. It is a symmetrical piercing with an equal number of holes on each side. As few as four holes can be used (two on each side) up to as many as the expanse of skin will allow.
Most people who get corset piercings use standard captive bead rings which a length of ribbon is then laced through. Although ribbon or lace are the most popular materials, rope and chain have also been used at times. While this all looks lovely, it is only intended for temporary use. If kept in, surface piercings such as these that use this type of jewelry will most likely not heal. The rings will migrate around the skin as they are rejected by the body, the wounds will become irritated, and nine times out of ten will leave horrible, unsightly scars all along the back. Sometimes hypodermic needles or bondage/slave rings are used instead with the same effect. To avoid this, the jewelry should be removed promptly after the fun has been had (corset piercings are common in fetish performances) and the pictures have been taken (they are also popular subjects for photo shoots.)
If you are interested in a permanent corset piercing, the first step is to find a reputable piercer in your area who has proven experience with this type of piercing. If he knows what he's doing, he should recommend surface bars (which are specially created for surface piercings) that have beaded rings mounted onto them, thus mimicking the look of captive bead rings. Flexible jewelry such as Tygon-based bars or Teflon tubing that move with the body are another option. Although intended to be laced, it is best to refrain from doing so until the piercing is fully healed. Lacing materials through the rings prematurely puts pressure on the wounds; that unnecessary tension pulls on the jewelry and may cause the body to reject the piercing. Even after it is healed, it is not recommended to wear the piercing laced up at all times. Done this way, the chances of healing a corset piercing are greatly increased.
A common variation of the standard back corset piercing is front or side "corset-like" body mods. These piercings have also been seen lacing up the sides of legs, thighs, arms, wrists and even a throat!

Ha, but realize these are nothing but TEMPORARY.
The body doesn't like foreign objects and wants to get rid of them.
This is a SURFACE PIERCING which means that its pierced under the surface of the skin. Which means its really easy to push it out. Like when you get a splinter your body will eventually push it out.
The body will only keep a piercing if its more work to heal it than push it out.
This being said surface bars are the only way to maybe heal one of these.
That being said they're pretty to look at but you can't keep the ribbions in all the time even if you have a healed surface bar.
It still has a pretty decent chance of rejecting but its greatly reduced.
People that get these often want them to last and don't realize they wont.
(Not discouraging I myself have a surface piercing thats healing wonderful with proper jewlery)

Interesting. Not something I would do, but everyone's different. I can see how it would be considered beautiful; I find it a little too much, myself! For all of you who are planning to get one, though, I wish you the best of luck with the piercing/healing process. Just make sure you go to a piercer who is experienced with this type!

This piercing was a lot of fun to get. Though yes it is temporary it is wonderful to have for a special occasion such as a wedding, prom, or a special event. As most of the other posters have said it will leave some scarring. Mine healed nicely but i still have marks. I am not trying to discourage/insult this, but how often will you find yourself wearing a backless shirt without looking silly. I got mine for prom and then it was out. I am not saying I regretted it, I am saying if you have it take a lot of pictures while you do. Because the scarring isn't worth it. But to all of you who do get this piercing good luck and I hope you enjoy them very much!
Very sexy, but they just can't stay on for a long time which in my opinion is not good. I would love to be able to keep them long term, but what if let's say, it catches on something and rips off my back? Grr..... I prefer the actual corset .

I want to get corset piercing on my back or side. I know most people who get corset piercing are doing photoshoots etc. and they are normally only have the corset rings/bars/etc. in for no more than a week... But is their any chance that they could become a permanent body modification without damaging you in any way? If not rejected by the body...

I think corset piercings are beautiful, I'd never get one myself cause I don't think I'm skinny enough for it to look good XD But the only problem I have with this article is it's called, "extreme" body mod, I don't think it's that extreme, it's just a larger group of regular piercings, spaced out and made to look pretty, it's great but not extreme. Scarfication is extreme.

I find these piercings to be both beautiful and painful. When I find a piercer who is qualified I am having it done. However I am a masochist and have most of my piercings where they can be covered up. If I get this done it will be with Teflon tubbing which will make it an easier heal for permanancy. To all those who find this disturbing I ask you: Why do you drink? Why do you smoke? Both of those are also body modifications and much worse for your body. As long as you take care of piercings they wont harm you. To the person who commented that these piercings look ugly due to the ripping and reddening/swelling of the flesh... the person in that picture obviously didn't realize that your not supposed to keep the lacing in the piercings when they are healing. To those going on about god: there are other religions out there and piercings have been going on since the begining of time, so who are you to say that YOUR god doesn't like it? How would you know? "Your body is a temple" and temples are often decorated with "jewelry" or art or paintings. So next time you see that painting hanging in YOUR church think of the nails holding it up.
I have 4 done so far. My particular piercer would not do more than 4 at a time. I am looking forward to the rest and prefer the lower back hourglass style. I also have wanted this done for many years and recently found someone who would do it at no charge and have taken the plunge. They are healing quite nicely and yes they are the permanent type. I got the best endorphine rush off of this particular piercing. Luv it!

im getting from my ankle up the side of my calf done tomorrow... 20 total. it cost $420 including the hoops.... the piercer has over 20 years experience and assures me they will be fine as perm... they just need to be properly cared for... even if they reject, he said they can be repierced, so im not scared.
To me the process of getting pierced is a wonderful rush, and to have something so beautiful done to you in addition to the orgasmic experience, is just so life affirming.

The picture where it looks like they're "tearing out" is where they just got rings and the body is rejecting the piercing. They're temporary and they didn't take it out.

Human skin is has quite a bit of elasticity. Have you ever seen people suspended by meat hooks on TV?
Same thing pretty much only your whole body weight isn't suspended on it.
And it's not like you're tying the lace tightly like you would on an actual corset.
It's gently stringing a light,lace ribbon or string (and as mentioned, occasionally a rope or chain) through metal rings embedded in the skin.
And as mentioned, there's a big difference between the temporary ladder piercing and the permanent.
As for the scars,
And sort of piercing comes with a price for when you take it out.
It's oddly beautiful, and this is coming from somebody who usually views this kind of thing as really retarded.

I thought these were awesome when they first came out, but now not so much. It seems like every time I turn around I see someone else with them. Maybe it's I don't think it's original anymore, and I think piercing/tattoos should really mean something or be original.
I myself have a large tattoo that took me two years to design right. Don't get a piercing because you think it looks awesome on someone else. Get it because it will mean something. And unless you know you're going into a job that allows visible piercing/tattoos, I'd recommend not getting ones on the arms. Most places that deal with customers or food won't hire you. My sister found that out the hard way.
i think they look awesome and they would be a neat thing to have if you were able to have it visable all the time but they really are not a piercing that would be very enjoyable to have if you couldnt show it off and had to wear clothing over it i think it would pull and be uncomfortable unlike facial piercings that are visable and no clothing mishaps

From the comments on here that have been posted by people who actually have one, I think the pain in more mind over matter.
I will be getting mine done in two weeks. I had been planning on doing the full length of my back, but I'm becoming more fond of the 8 centered. You have to realize that YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PIERCINGS. Otherwise they end up looking disgusting and rejecting. Then you'll have a gross mess on your back (or where ever you get it done) instead of a beautiful, elegant, and gorgeous piercing.
It's your body. Do what you will with it. I can see why people would be turned off by this piercing. It is something different and slightly extreme. But please be open to the views of other people. Not everything we do is going to make everybody happy and you shouldn't live your life to make other people happy. Do it for yourself.

i was told by a trusted piercer.. that if you wanna keep the corset piercing forever.. than to have it done useing microdermals. granted, microdermals are more painful, more perminated than any other peircing, and alot more expencive. but they heal really well if you take good care of them, and you can have your corset peircing forever. :)

I got mine done about two months ago and it is not meant for a permanent thing. i ended up having to take mine out because of irritation. it was beautiful and i was sad to see it go

tenth...really only wanted to ask something but all these threads pissed me off so i felt like venting a bit so now ill ask...what is the opinion of getting this done in small steps to try and make it more succesful to heal??? people do tats in steps so why not the peircings...gives your body more time to heal dont you think.??especially mine i heal badly i had three eyebrow peircing at once and none made it cuz they wouldnt ever fully heal and the people said it was but it wasnt so it migrated tore and just didnt want to work...so im thinking and have been for very long time doing this slowly so as to higher the probability rate of success so wish me luck please and let me know if anyone has tried it this way yet its the not the pain im scared of...its the fear of it not healing and being a waste of my money...not my time though..it would never be a waste of my time but money is unfortionalty important to me and when i do get the money to do something nice for myself id like it not to be wasted lol:D

I was made to have corset piercing by my boyfriend at the time it went all the way down my back and I had different colur lace , it was painful and within 2 months i had an infection and contracted MRSA which nearly killed me it took a year to get better needless to say my boyfriend was not there to help me and went off , it has been nearly 3 years since I had it done and I will never do something so stupid again

They can be temporary or permanent. With the use of regular steel the body will reject it after a period of time, but if correct jewelry is used such as beaded surface bars or jewelry made from teflon or tygon tubing they can be permanent. The reason most of these are temporary is either because the jewelry is steel and does not move with the body (as teflon and tygon does) or it has been done incorrectly. It is also suggested not to lace the piercings immediately after they've been pierced or they may migrate and heal that way or never heal correctly at all. Keep in mind proper and complete healing time for these piercings is anywhere from 8 months to a year! There is a right and a wrong way to do everything, if you have to choose between an artist who has been doing it correctly for years that will charge a lot or a novice who charges little, choose the experienced guy for god sakes and get this beautiful piercing done correctly and let it heal correctly!!

To Anne: I've found that at some tattoo shops the piercer's will only charge you for the rings do to the piercings.
I think if any woman can have a child you sure as hell can get these piercings done, and if you have a piercer out there who is great at what he/she does it really shouldnt hurt much at all.

This an accident waiting to happen. Especially, in love making. An accidental slip of someone's hand and the shit can get ripped out. I prefer that the girls wear actual corsets instead of this.

I have some questions about this because ever since i was 12-13 i always found this very very interesting and i always told myself that i wanted to get this done but i want it to be permanent but most say it's just for looks and then you have to take it out, so how much this would cost? cause i always estimated 25 dollars for one and if i got 10 in a row of 2 it would be like 600 dollars for both sides of my body together, my other question is could this be permanent?, also would you use surface bars or microdermal anchors?, and also Is this illegal in Michigan? cause i called this place and i asked if they did microdermal piercings and they said it's illegal in Macomb County, so were could i go to get this done? Don't get me wrong, I love peircings, I've lost count of how many I have had but this looks too painless and they will regect in the end which means money down the drain.
Buying a real corset would cost a hell of a lot less then getting those done!
Save your skin for something that will stay put.
The other option is getting them done with dermal anchoring. Like I have, but I'm waiting for the anchors to heal for another few months yet until I get my rings attached to the dimpled plates and the ribbon threaded. Much more permanent, much more risky and painful at the same time. Already this morning I had an anchor rip out on a t-shirt, they need a good amount of time to heal.

If you like them and have patience, time and expierience in piercings it may be alot easier to heal.
I'm going to start with one, get them after each one heals to put less stress on my system.

be such a high risk area.
My 8 dermal anchors for my corset were my 21st to 29th piercings, half are healing amazingly, the other half are right on my side and are in a pretty high risk area. I soak in baths dripped with Rescue Oil, to help with scarring, and I need to improve on my Vitamin intake for healing. I'm only 16, so this probably wasn't the best of ideas when my body is still growing, but I'm hoping they will stay well. Just over a month until I get the rings attached and the ribbon threaded, can't wait!
I think a corset piercing would look so beautiful with a backless wedding gown.

Whether you're a troll or a lover there's a documentary called "Modify." I recomend this movie to everyone. I caution you though...it's not for the weak-stomach types due to the graphic content. However it does a wonderful job at displaying the reasons people choose to modify their bodies in this way and others.
And in my personal opinion I think it takes a lot of strength for a person to do body modifications of any sort. I truely believe that if a person keeps an open mind while watching this documentary, they will understand this topic much clearer.

People need to stop worrying so much about what other people are doing. None of this is mutilation, if it was mutiilation one of you that didnt want it would be forced to get one, but your not. Body modification is just someone changing their apperance to suite them. Everyone does it in some form, most of us cut and style our hair, or cut our nails and paint them, Wearing make up. All your really doing is making yourself feel more comfortable in your own skin. Some people only get small tattoos but others want to be covered, some people like just an ear piercing but some people could pierce every surface of their body if they could. None of it is sick and none of it is wrong. People are just to judgmental and scared in there own little world where everyone is the same but thats not how it is thankfully. I think everyone should try to see a point of view they dont understand, it could help a lot of people to be alot more accepting of things they are just scared of.

Why would someone want to go through all that pain for temporary beauty. Actually opposite of beauty I would say cause having marks on your back in not beautiful. I got mine done. Cost $150. I have a metal allergy but my skin didn't over react. I thought my body would reject them but they didn't. i had it for 6 weeks. Normally people do not leave them in there that long but I did. My body heals super fast and really good. I got my belly button pierced when I was 16 and I was able to change my ring in like 7-10 days. Also, I got my Monroe done and it healed within that time period too. But, I took out my corset because some were healing in different directions because I left the ribbon out so that there wasn't consent pulling on the rings so that they had time to heal. But since I like to sleep on my back sometimes, they would lay different ways on my back and would heal towards the outside and not the middle, so when I put the ribbon in it hurt. I loved it and think it was the sexiest part on me. I will probably have scars but I think that I will like them too. I am thinking about getting it done down my side the next time.

Im doing a module at uni that looks at the body as art and how people take control of their bodies. I dont understand some of it (like slitting wrists for art etc) but im going to film myself getting corset piercings (and possibly tongue and a reverse navel one) as part of my project. I love all my piercings and i get that a lot of people dont understand but were not depressed its just like people wanting to bunjee jump or sky dive, i wouldnt do it but im not judging those who do, getting piercings gives you a rush and makes you feel confident about yourself so whats the problem, try and keep an open mind. And they dont hurt once they have healed i catch my wrist ones without noticing.

Someone told me that I should get this piercing later in life.... I said no, but I do think it can be a very attractive piercing if you care for it properly and have a trained piercer do it for you. I don't want to take the risk, however.... as much of a masochist as I am :P
